Come to the DPRK and participate in the Masik Pass Short Distance Marathon! This unique event is the first of its kind organized by the DPRK for amateurs. The half Marathon offers the chance to run 10km or half marathon in North Korea and also to have a great insight into the country by exploring rural landscapes. The Masik Pass Resort is situated in a beautiful mountain valley and boasts one of the best hotels (5*) in Korea.
The time limit for the half marathon is 5 hours and for 10km is 3 hours. All participants will receive a unique souvenir towel. Special awards will be presented to those who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the event.The registration fee for the Half Marathon (20km/12 miles) is €65, and for Mini Marathon (10km/6 miles) is €40. During this tour you will also have a chance to visit the 15th The Pyongyang International Film Festival - international gathering of filmmakers from many countries who come to the DPRK every second year to share the successes and experiences.

  • Masik Pass Half Marathon - unique event, the first of its kind to happen at Masik Pass, an area famous for having the recently built world class resort Masik Pass Ski Resort

  • Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) - inspect one of the most heavily militarized places on the planet. This strip of land divides South and North Korea. Visit Kaesong - the ancient capital of Korea until up to the 15th century. It is the only city in Korea which has preserved its original historical make up as it hasn’t been destroyed during the Korean war

    Sep 17 (Sat): Pyongyang

    Arrival in Pyongyang

    • Depart from Beijing by Air Koryo flight JS 152 Beijing-Pyongyang at 12.55 from TERMINAL 2, Beijing Capital Airport . Arrive in Pyongyang at 15.30 local time
    • Transfer to Pyongyang
    • Stop by Arch of Triumph - built in 1982 to commemorate President Kim Il Sung’s role in resisting Japanese rule, it is the second tallest triumphal arch in the world. Each of its 25,500 blocks of finely-dressed white granite represents a day of his life up to that point
    • Check-in at the Yanggakdo International Hotel **** - one of the best Pyongyang hotels (first class and deluxe suits are also available at extra charge), it is beautifully located in the middle of Taedong river
    • Dinner at the hotel

    15th Pyongyang International Film Festival

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Visit incredible Kumsusan Palace of Sun - Mausoleum for president Kim Il Sung and for the leader Kim Jong Il. To visit the Mausoleum tourists should follow a strict dress code: no shorts, T-shirts and sandals, no blue jeans and mini-skirts
    • Stop by Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery - a cemetery and memorial to the North Korean soldiers fighting for freedom and independence against Japanese rule
    • Move to Moranbong Park - a recreation area where locals have picnics and sing songs during weekends. It is a unique opportunity to socialize with local people
    • Walk in Mansudae Fountain Park - composed of many beautifully designed in shape of dancing women fountains, this park is a place to enjoy jets of water reaching up to 80 meters
    • Visit majestic Mansudae Grand Monument - the huge bronze statues of the leaders standing in the center of the composition with two monuments titled "Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Struggle" and "Socialist Construction" on both sides. It was renovated in April 2012 following the passing away of the leader Kim Jong Il and a new statue of Kim Jong Il was added next to Kim Il Sung's
    • Lunch
    • Visit Korean Film studio - DPRK's version of Hollywood. The leader Kim Il Song liked to be here and give on spot guidance to movie directors. You will see European, Japanese and South Korean villages set for movie production
    • Observe Pyongyang from the top of Juche Tower - at 150m it is the highest stone monument in the world. Take elevator to the top of the tower to enjoy the magnificent view of Pyongyang (optional, 5 Euro p/p)
    • Visit Monument to Workers' Party of Korea - opened in Juche 84 (1995) the monument depicts the hammer, sickle and brush seized by a worker, a farmer and an intellectual. The round belt means the single-hearted unity of the leader, Party and people
    • Take ride in Pyongyang Metro - one of the deepest subways in the world, it was designed to serve as a bomb shelter in case of war. The stations' interiors are stunning with superb lighting and mosaics. This is a great chance to interact with local people and explore several subway stations

    • Dinner in one of the Pyongyang’s restaurants
    • Continue evening in Pyongyang microbrewery and bar - try several types of locally brewed beer and wide variety of international cuisine (at your own expense)

    Sep 19 (Mon): Pyongyang Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Kaesong Pyongyang

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Drive to Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) - a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea, it is one of the most militarized area on our planet
    • Visit Panmunjom - a village where in 1953 Armistice Talks were held between the DPR Korea and the United Nation Command. Visit the blue tent-like building located exactly on the borderline between Koreas. You can walk around the conference room and hop from South to North Korea while you are in this building. This is one of the few places where you can take pictures of the DPRK military
    • Transfer to Kaesong - capital of Korea up to the 15th century. Kaesong is the only city in Korea which has preserved its original historical make up as it hasn't been destroyed during the Korean war. It is a home for 12 historic sites from the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kaesong is considered to be home of Koryo insam (ginseng) and so be prepared to buy some of the best insam in the Far East
    • Walk in Janamsan Park - located on a hill overlooking the city it is a great place to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the old Kaesong
    • Visit Sungkyunkwan University - the oldest Confucian University established in 10th century. Since 1987 here is Kaesong Koryo Museum exhibiting one of the largest wooden buildings to still exist in the DPRK. Here you can see several UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Sonjuk Bridge - a small stone bridge dating back to 1216. The stamp shop here is excellent place to buy some souvenirs
    • Enjoy lunch at Tongil restaurant - "Tongil" means "Reunification" in Korean, it is one of the most famous restaurants in Kaesong where you can experience royal meal with multiple side-dishes. For anyone wanting to supplement their lunch, there will be an opportunity to sample Korea’s famous ginseng chicken soup (at extra charge)
    • Drive back to Pyongyang. On the way back there will be a short photo-break at Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification - the monument representing desire of Korean people for reunification. It is shaped in form of two Korean women holding Korean peninsula over the Thongil highway from Pyongyang to DMZ
    • Visit one of the finest museums of the DPRK Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum - unveiled in 2013 by the leader Kim Jong Un after massive renovation this museum explains the origins of the Korean War (1950-53) between South and North. Here you will see the only US ship captured by a foreign country - the spy ship USS Pueblo, as well as American weapons and shot down planes. The museum features amazing displays and excellent dioramas
    • Kim Il Sung Square - Pyongyang’s central square where Korea’s massive military parades normally take place. Opened in August Juche 43 (1954) it is the 30th largest square in the world

    Sep 20 (Tue): Pyongyang Wonsan

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Drive to Wonsan - port city and naval base on the westernmost shore of the East Korean Sea, Korea’s 5th largest city. There are a lot of beautiful beaches around Wonsan making it a touristic Mekka of the DPRK
    • Arrive in Wonsan and visit Wonsan central square - located in the city's heart it features recently renovated monuments to the leaders. A few minutes walk from the central square there is a harbor where you can see local people fishing
    • Have lunch at Kalmaegi fish restaurant in Wonsan
    • Visit Chonsam cooperative farm - "an area of three villages where springs well out" in Korean. You will hear the great story about Kim Il Song who visited this farm and spotted how many persimmons were hanging at a tree. You will visit agricultural fields, kindergarten and local store
    • Kaeson Revolutionary Museum in Wonsan - former Wonsan Railway Station turned into museum
    • Songdowon International Children's Union Camp - perfect place for schoolchildren between April and October not only from Korea but from other countries as well. It is situated right on the coast and boasts white, sandy beaches
    • Move to Masik Pass Ski Resort - newly opened world class ski resort with deluxe hotel located 40min away from Wonsan. In summer time it is a perfect place for a night or lunch stop
    • Check in at Masik Ryong Hotel (5*) - newly opened (2013) deluxe hotel located in a beautiful mountain valley near Wonsan. The hotel features superb facilities including several swimming pools, spa, saunas, massage rooms etc. It is one of a few places in Korea with fast access to the Internet available for all tourists

    Masik Pass Half Marathon

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Run NEW! Short Distance Marathon organized specially for amateurs only in a beautiful mountain valley. The marathon starts at 9.00am, the awarding ceremony will be held at 14:30. You will have 5 hours for a half marathon (21.0975km), and 3 hours for 10km run. This unique event is the first of its kind, it is the chance to run the half marathon and have a great insight into the country by exploring rural landscapes
    • Victory lunch at Masik Restaurant
    • Watch marathon closing ceremony
    • Back to the hotel, take shower
    • Visit Ulim Waterfall - one of the famous waterfalls in Korea, it was discovered by Korean soldiers in 2001. The waterfall falls from 45m making thunderous sound echo as far as four kilometers around. That is why the waterfall is called "Ullim" or "echo" in Korean
    • Move to Pyongyang
    • Dinner

    • After breakfast in the hotel transfer to the airport and depart by Air Koryo flight JS 251Y Pyongyang-Beijing at 10.00 in the morning from Pyongyang Airport . Arrive in Beijing at 11.30 in the morning (local time)
