After a successful first edition in 2016, the Wonsan International Friendship Air Festival has become one of major events in Korea. Korea Konsult is the official partner. The 2016 Wonsan Air Festival was the first public airshow held in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and it was a great success.
Tourists from all over the world will enjoy three days of aviation and air sports activities and entertainment. There will be thrilling aerobatic flying displays, picturesque pleasure flights, exciting skydiving opportunities, scenic mass balloon ascents and colourful model aircraft flying, arranged for your delectation and delight.
During the unique event, participants will have a chance to see, photograph, and fly on a large variety of classic Soviet aircraft of the Air Koryo and Korean People’s Army Air Force fleets. Aircraft expected to participate in the festival include: Antonov An-2, An-24, An-148; Ilyushin Il-18, Il-62, Il-76; MiG-15 & MiG-21; Mil Mi-8; Tupolev Tu-134 & Tu-154; and others.
In addition to aeronautical pursuits, traditional Korean food, snacks and drink will be available throughout the event. We are also very pleased to be hosting the DPRK’s second National Beer Showcase, offering examples of Korean beers from across the country, and visitors will be welcome to sample their wares.

The Festival will be taking place in the Eastern port city of Wonsan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The main venue will be Kalma Airport, a newly re-constructed airport built in grand style and gateway to the Wonsan – Mount Kumgang International Tourism Zone. Further events will take place on Kalma Myongsasimri Bathing Resort, a pristine white sandy beach backing onto the Eastern Korean Sea, and Haean Square, the city’s central square which will host the grand finale of the Festival.
The festival is usually held in September. At the moment we don't yet have the date of the festival.
There will be a packed itinerary of aviation and air sports related events across all days, including civil and military aerobatic flying displays, scenic pleasure flights, an International Friendship Skydive and parachuting display, an International Friendship Mass Ballooning Ascent and Nightglow, plus microlight and model aircraft flying display. Framing the aviation-related events will be an array of Korean cultural entertainment encompassing song and dance performances, the DPRK National Beer Showcase, and culminating in a grand evening finale of Mass Dancing and fireworks.
The Festival is open to all international aviation enthusiasts, air sports practitioners and foreign tourists from around the world who wish to witness and take part in this amazing event. Visitors may choose whether they wish to simply sit back and enjoy the displays and entertainment on offer, or additionally actively participate in the opportunities available, for example the International Friendship Skydive and the International Friendship Mass Ballooning Ascent and Nightglow.

The Wonsan International Friendship Air Festival is being organised to promote the spirit of international peace and friendship through aviation and air sports. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea welcomes aviation enthusiasts, air sportspersons, and international tourists to the city of Wonsan who share in this vision and who wish to be a part of this exciting event.
Participants of the three-day and longer tours will have a chance to fly on an array of classic Soviet aircraft. Thirty-minute optional joyrides are offered on the aircraft listed below.
