On April 10 take part in the Pyongyang International Marathon and on April 15 celebrate 104th birthday of President Kim Il Sung (the Day of the Sun). You can run 10km, half or full marathon. Instead of taking part in the race you can just stay in Kim Il Sung Stadium and watch the marathon runners and the soccer game between domestic teams. Enjoy extensive sightseeing program in Pyongyang, in Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at the border with South Korea, in the Korean silicon valley - Pyongsong city, explore Nampo city - the biggest port at the west coast where you will see one of the Juche miracles - West Sea Barrage, and visit International Friendship Exhibition in Mt.Myohyang. On the Day of the Sun join in Mass Dance and visit unique Flower exhibition dedicated to "Kimilsungia" and "Kimjongilia" flowers.

    Apr 9 (Sat): Pyongyang

    Arrival in Pyongyang

    • Departure from Beijing by Air Koryo flight JS 152 Beijing-Pyongyang at 12.55 from TERMINAL 2, Beijing Capital Airport . Arrive in Pyongyang at 15.30 local time
    • Transfer to Pyongyang
    • Stop by Arch of Triumph - built in 1982 to commemorate President Kim Il Sung’s role in resisting Japanese rule, it is the second tallest triumphal arch in the world. Each of its 25,500 blocks of finely-dressed white granite represents a day of his life up to that point
    • Move to the central Pyongyang and observe majestic Mansudae Grand Monument - the huge bronze statues of the leaders standing in the center of the composition with two monuments titled "Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Struggle" and "Socialist Construction" on both sides. It was renovated in April 2012 following the passing away of the leader Kim Jong Il and a new statue of Kim Jong Il was added next to Kim Il Sung's
    • Behind Mansudae Grand Monument you will see Chollima Monument - named after a mythical winged horse (Chollima in Korean literally means "thousand-mile horse"). In the period of reconstruction following the Korean War Cholima was the symbol inspiring workers to rebuild their nation at ‘Chollima Speed’
    • Check-in at the Yanggakdo International Hotel **** - one of the best Pyongyang hotels (first class and deluxe suits are also available at extra charge), it is beautifully located in the middle of Taedong river
    • Dinner at the hotel

    Apr 10 (Sun): Pyongyang

    Pyongyang International Marathon

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Move to Kim Il Sung Stadium - originally built in 1926 and last time renovated in April 1982 it is used mainly for football matches, and it hosted the mass games until the 1990s. Today it is the home of Pyongyang International Marathon and Mass Gymnastic Show where the marathon starts and finishes, and get ready for the Pyongyang International Marathon - is an annual marathon race contested each April. The International Association of Athletics Federation designates the marathon as a bronze-label event and it registers the records of professional runners. This will be the third year that the marathon will be open to amateur runners so don’t loose your chance and join a 10km run, half or a full marathon. Those who are not running can stay at the stadium and enjoy soccer match (20 Euro extra charge) between Korean teams or watch and cheer marathoners from the streets
    • After Marathon Awarding Ceremony move back to the hotel, take shower and change clothes
    • Enjoy Lunch
    • Visit Mangyongdae Native House - the birthplace of President Kim Il Sung
    • Stop by Mangyondae funfair - a huge amusement park located 12 kilometers from Pyongyang. It has a pool, a roller coaster, a merry-go-round, a train ride and many other attractions
    • Enjoy unique Tram ride around the city - a ride from Mangyongdae Native House to Pyongyang Railway Station with a stop at Pyongyang Circus. The tram system was built after the end of the Korean War and it is still the main means of transportation for working population to get to work and back home
    • Rise high and observe Pyongyang from the top of Juche Tower - at 150m it is the highest stone monument in the world. Take elevator to the top of the tower to enjoy the magnificent view of Pyongyang (optional, 5 Euro p/p)
    • Stop by Monument to Workers' Party of Korea - opened in Juche 84 (1995) the monument depicts the hammer, sickle and brush seized by a worker, a farmer and an intellectual. The round belt means the single-hearted unity of the leader, Party and people
    • Dinner in one of Pyongyang’s restaurants
    • Play bowling with locals in Golden Lane Bowling Center - the huge entertainment center, a good chance to mix with locals and watch some stellar displays of local bowling talent and relax after long sightseeing day. There is also a shooting range next door

    OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo International Hotel ****
    Apr 11 (Mon): Pyongyang Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Kaesong Pyongyang

    • Drive (about 2h) to Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) - a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea, it is one of the most militarized area on our planet
    • Visit Panmunjom - a village where in 1953 Armistice Talks were held between the DPR Korea and the United Nation Command. Visit the blue tent-like building located exactly on the borderline between Koreas. You can walk around the conference room and hop from South to North Korea while you are in this building. This is one of the few places where you can take pictures of the DPRK military
    • Move to Kaesong - capital of Korea up to the 15th century. Kaesong is the only city in Korea which has preserved its original historical make up as it hasn't been destroyed during the Korean war. It is a home for 12 historic sites from the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kaesong is considered to be home of Koryo insam (ginseng) and so be prepared to buy some of the best insam in the Far East
    • Walk in Janamsan Park - located on a hill overlooking the city it is a great place to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the old Kaesong
    • Enjoy lunch at Tongil restaurant - "Tongil" means "Reunification" in Korean, it is one of the most famous restaurants in Kaesong where you can experience royal meal with multiple side-dishes. For anyone wanting to supplement their lunch, there will be an opportunity to sample Korea’s famous ginseng chicken soup (at extra charge)
    • Explore Sungkyunkwan University - the oldest Confucian University established in 10th century. Since 1987 here is Kaesong Koryo Museum exhibiting one of the largest wooden buildings to still exist in the DPRK. Here you can see several UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Sonjuk Bridge - a small stone bridge dating back to 1216. The stamp shop here is excellent place to buy some souvenirs
    • Move back (about 2h) to Pyongyang. On the way back you will make a short photo-stop at Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification - the monument representing desire of Korean people for reunification. It is shaped in form of two Korean women holding Korean peninsula over the Thongil highway from Pyongyang to DMZ
    • Learn history of Korean war in one of the finest museums of the DPRK Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum - unveiled in 2013 by the leader Kim Jong Un after massive renovation this museum explains the origins of the Korean War (1950-53) between South and North. Here you will see the only US ship captured by a foreign country - the spy ship USS Pueblo, as well as American weapons and shot down planes. The museum features amazing displays and excellent dioramas
    • Go deep underground and ride Pyongyang Metro - one of the deepest subways in the world, it was designed to serve as a bomb shelter in case of war. The stations' interiors are stunning with superb lighting and mosaics. This is a great chance to interact with local people and explore several subway stations
    • Have dinner in one of Pyongyang’s restaurants

    Apr 12 (Tue): Pyongyang Pyongsong Nampo

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Drive to Pyongsong - Korea's Silicon Valley focusing on leading space researches. Only in 2014 this city was opened for foreign visitors
    • Drop by Pyongsong Central Square
    • Visit Paeksong Revolutionary Site - the place to which Kim Il Sung University was moved during the Korean War
    • Inspect Pyongsong Food Factory - socialist enterprise producing everything from popcorn to beer and soju (Korean rice wine)
    • Stop by Kim Jong Suk Middle School - named after the mother of Kim Jong Il it is one of the best schools in the DPRK for talented children from the whole country. For some English-language learners in this school you can be the first opportunity to converse with foreign visitors
    • Lunch in Pyongsong Jangsusan Hotel
    • Drive to Nampo - gateway to Pyongyang on the west coast of Korea, the fourth biggest city in the DPRK
    • Observe West Sea Barrage - built from 1981 to 1986 this 8 km barrage is a source of pride in the DPRK, visit of the Museum of West Sea Barrage Construction
    • Check in The Ryonggang Hot Spring Hotel *** - or “Dragon River Hot Spa Resort” consists of seven villas each with 4 neatly decorated appatments equipped with its own private hot spring tub. The salty water comes directly from the waterbed beneath the ground and has countless health benefits. It is the richest in mineral matters among the spas of Korea

    Apr 13 (Wed): Nampo Pyongyang

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Inspect Kangso Spring Water Factory - one of a few places to see how mineral water is bottled from its beginning to its packaging. After the tour visitors can try locally produced mineral water
    • Visit Chongsanri Cooperative Farm - the DPRK’s most famous farm, the birthplace of the famous Chongsanri spirit and Chongsanri farming method
    • Move Back to Pyongyang
    • Enjoy picnic Lunch in Ryongak Hill - called "Dragon Hill" (Ryongak in Korean) it is a rocky peak in Pyongyang's suburbs. At 292 m Tae peak is the highest giving splendid views on the city. It is a popular hiking and BBQ destination for the capital inhabitants
    • Shopping in Kwangbok Supermarket - located at one of the biggest city's street it is a popular mall where visitors can exchange money into local Won in order to shop
    • Drop by Korea Fine Art Gallery - houses a great number of precious ancient works, and works created during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle
    • Enjoy a walking tour of the Pyongyang center. Start at Kim Il Sung Square - Pyongyang’s central square where Korea’s massive military parades normally take place. Opened in August Juche 43 (1954) it is the 30th largest square in the world
    • Walk to Pyongyang Foreign Language Book Shop - the popular shop where you can buy propaganda posters, books and other souvenirs
    • Head to Taedong Park - a great place a few minutes away from Kim Il Sung Square to enjoy a peceful park and a walk along the Taedong river
    • Inspect Pyongyang Bell - national treasure, it was rung to announce invasions, natural disasters, New Year's Day and other major events. The current bell was cast in 1726 during the Ri dynasty to replace an earlier one that was destroyed by fire in 1714
    • Walk along the Taedong river to Taedong Gate - built in the mid-6th century, it is the east gate of the inner castle of the Walled City of Pyongyang (Pyongyang Castle, Koguryo dynasty) situated on the bank of River Taedong
    • Stop by Ryonggwang Pavillion - one of the 8 scenic wonders of western part of Korea
    • Dinner in one of Pyongyang’s restaurants

    Apr 14 (Thu): Pyongyang Mt.Myohyang Pyongyang

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Experience incredible Kumsusan Palace of Sun - Mausoleum for president Kim Il Sung and for the leader Kim Jong Il. To visit the Mausoleum tourists should follow a strict dress code: no shorts, T-shirts and sandals, no blue jeans and mini-skirts
    • Drive to Mt.Myohyang - the Mountain of Mysterious Fragrance, one of the five celebrated mountains of Korea. It is a sacred site as, according to legend, it was the home of King Tangun, forefather of the Korean people. In 2009 UNESCO designated Mount Myohyang a world biosphere reserve
    • Visit grandiose International Friendship Exhibition - the world's biggest treasure-house. On exhibit are gifts received by DPRK's leaders over the years. One building stores the presents given to President Kim Il Sung, while a smaller one holds those given to Leader Kim Jong Il
    • After impressive exhibition relax in Pohyon temple - one of the five famous Buddhist temples of Korea, it was built nearly 1,000 years ago
    • Enjoy your lunch near the Friendship Exhibition in Hyangsan - town bordered by the Chongchun river on the one side, and the Myohyang stream flows along the other
    • Take a lite hike in the beautiful Manphok valley - "Manphok" means in Korean "valley of ten thousands falls". Enjoy the route of about 8 km (round way) and see beautiful hermitages, rocks, caves, falls, and pavilions
    • Drive back to Pyongyang

    Apr 15 (Fri): Pyongyang

    Day of the Sun

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Walk in Mansudae Fountain Park - composed of many beautifully designed in shape of dancing women fountains, this park is a place to enjoy jets of water reaching up to 80 meters
    • Head to Kim Il Sung Square
    • Move to Moranbong Park - a recreation area where locals have picnics and sing songs during weekends. It is a unique opportunity to socialize with local people
    • Drop by Flower exhibition - a show mainly dedicated to Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia, two flowers named after Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Every year there are about 30,000 flowers presented by Army forces, commissions and ministries of the cabinet and national institutions, foreign friends and overseas compatriots. It is a great chance to buy roots of these beautiful flowers for your garden
    • Have Lunch
    • Experience Pyongyang circus or revolutionary opera - enjoy real socialist art (about 20 Euro per ticket)
    • Enjoy Mass Dance - one of the most well known images of North Korea: students of local universities get on the main city's squares and dance dressed in traditional Korean suit
    • Dinner in one of Pyongyang’s restaurants
    • Celebrate day of the Sun in Pyongyang microbrewery and bar - try several types of locally brewed beer and wide variety of international cuisine (at your own expense)
    • Move to Mansudae Grand Monument to watch expected fireworks on the occasion of the Day of the Sun

    Apr 16 (Sat):

    • After breakfast in the hotel transfer to the airport and departure by Air Koryo flight JS 151 Pyongyang-Beijing at 8.30 in the morning from Pyongyang Airport . Arrive in Beijing at 09.55 in the morning (local time)
